Chiseche Mibenge (she/her) brings more than 20 years of experience in international law and human rights research and advocacy to her role as Director of International Research at the Guttmacher Institute, which she joined in 2023. In her position, she oversees the Institute’s portfolio of international projects and manages relationships with in-country, regional and global partners. Before joining Guttmacher, Dr. Mibenge was the Director for Gender Initiatives at Episcopal Relief & Development, where she oversaw global programs promoting early childhood development, climate resilience and adaptation, and interventions against gender-based violence. Dr. Mibenge led human rights and faith-based advocacy on such platforms as the United Nations (UN) Commission on the Status of Women, Women Deliver and Churches Beyond Borders. She provided technical support on strategy and praxis for implementing partners. Previously, Dr. Mibenge enjoyed academic affiliation with the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights Research (part of Utrecht University School of Law), the City University of New York and Stanford University. She has served as an expert in human rights for a wide range of actors, including UN agencies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sierra Leone, the International Human Rights Network (Maynooth), Grand Challenges Canada, and the Rwanda Defense Command and Staff College. She serves on the boards of More Art, the Feminist Press, the Rustin Fund for Global Equality and the Global Interfaith Network for People of all Sexes, Sexual Orientations, Gender Identities and Expressions, and is a Trinity Church Wall Street Leadership Fellow. She received her bachelor of laws degree from the University of Zambia and her master’s and doctorate degrees in international human rights law from Utrecht University School of Law.
