Leila Darabi, Senior Communications Associate
Leila Darabi joined Guttmacher as communications assistant in 2002, became communications associate in 2003 and senior communications associate in 2007. Leila works closely with Guttmacher’s developing country partners to promote the use of sound science in their work. She accomplishes this by assisting partners in strategic communications planning and by leading skills-building workshops for in-country advocates and journalists. In New York, she manages the communications components of the Institute’s international projects. Aside from English, Leila is fluent in French and is proficient in Farsi. She is the Institute’s primary contact for both Francophone Africa and the United Nations. Previously, she worked with the Middle East and North Africa Division of Human Rights Watch to monitor conflicts and promote accurate media coverage of the region. She holds a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College, a Certificate of Political Studies from the National Institute of Political Science in Paris and a Master of Science degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University.
