Protecting the Next Generation: Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health - Latin America and the Caribbean

The Guttmacher Institute is working with research and communications partners in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua—in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization and a regional research center in Costa Rica—to identify and address the sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescents in Central America. The project aims to increase awareness and understanding of the factors that place young people at risk for early, unwanted pregnancy and STIs in each of the three focus countries. The Institute is also working to assess existing youth-oriented policies and programs in each country, identifying opportunities to implement policy recommendations.

Project findings will be communicated to a wide range of stakeholders, including advocates, policymakers, health care providers, media and NGOs, in order to improve the provision of sexual and reproductive health information and services to youth in the region.

Project support comes from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
