Position Summary:

The Global Communications Manager is a vital part of the Global Communications team, who will work closely with senior staff and international partners to develop communications and advocacy plans designed to implement the Institute’s research dissemination and policy strategies. The successful candidate will be an organized self-starter, with the ability to develop and draft the full range of communications products. This position will offer critical communications support to policy and research staff.  The ideal candidate will possess the ability to read, comprehend and summarize complex research material into tailored communications products designed to reach variety of audiences, including policymakers, advocates and media.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with international partners, communications, policy, and research staff to develop and implement dissemination strategies for country-level, regional and global studies and projects.

  • Develops, drafts, and tailors full range of communications products including; press releases, fact sheets, blog posts, infographics, Op-eds, explainers, and social media content.

  • Proactively identifies opportunities to amplify Guttmacher’s global work, including international days of action, conferences, meetings, and other relevant events.

  • Works closely with senior colleagues to identify potential global communications country partners, negotiates partner contracts, work plans, budgets and schedules of deliverables, and coordinates ongoing work with communications partners.

  • Assists in drafting and compiling highlights and data for internal updates from the Communications Team, periodic reports for funders and the Guttmacher Board.

  • Develops, drafts and disseminates e-mail messages to Guttmacher email lists and posts news releases and other materials to website.

  • Assists in digital content development, including social media, website, and multimedia content creation and curation;

  • Drafts PowerPoint slides and other presentations for country partners and senior staff;

  • Performs other communications tasks as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Ideal candidate is an early career professional with excellent global communications skills, and a demonstrated awareness of international public health, sexual and reproductive health and rights issues

  • Minimum of three to five years relevant work experience required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; speaks and writes clearly, engages in two-way dialogue, consistently sharing information to keep colleagues and partners informed.

  • Ability to read and correctly interpret complex policy and research materials; taking the initiative to ask questions for clarity.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize effectively, including experience managing multiple priorities and projects, and meeting tight deadlines.

  • Must possess cultural competence and sensitivity when interacting with a diverse array of partners and audiences;

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals.

  • Ability to travel at least 15% of the year.

  • Knowledge of global sexual and reproductive health issues is a strong plus.

  • Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel

  • Experience working with Mailchimp, Drupal, and Asana is a plus

  • Fluency in French and or Spanish is a strong plus,

  • Experience working with/in low and middle-income countries preferred.

Salary and benefits

Salary starting and range for this role is at $78,378.14 to $126,086.57 commensurate with experience.
