Position Summary

Assist with social science research pertaining to reproductive behavior and access to health care services (principally sexual behavior, family planning, unintended pregnancy and abortion) in both domestic and international contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection
    • Investigate and troubleshoot minor issues related to data collection, including for respondent, database, and other technical issues
    • Edit, format, print, and test data collection instruments
    • Learn and follow procedures for tracking survey respondents
    • Check and code returned questionnaires in preparation for data entry
    • Maintain and update accurate records and notes in fielding databases
    • Follow-up with survey respondents via telephone, fax, and email
    • Prepare data collection materials for mailing
    • Recruit clinics to participate in studies
    • Maintain proper documentation of all fieldwork activities and archive project files
  • Assist senior staff in preparing manuscripts and presentation materials
    • Formatting to meet journal specifications, including text, tables and figures
    • Checking and formatting references
    • Fact-checking manuscripts, reports and fact sheets
    • Create tables and figures for manuscripts and presentations
    • Assist with preparing posters or presentations for conferences
  • Data-related tasks
    • Basic programming, under direction, to read data, create and recode variables, generate descriptive tabulations
    • Data entry, cleaning, and checking
    • Compile data into tables
    • Cleaning, transcribing and de-identifying qualitative data transcripts
  • Search for and gather literature and relevant information; draft summaries of articles for a literature review; maintain updated reference lists and group library settings in Zotero
  • Archive work during and after project completion, with assistance
  • Assist project manager or project principal with tasks, which could include project schedules, work plan, meetings, contracts, payments, and IRB submission process
  • Coordinate meetings, including taking notes, scheduling, and drafting agendas
  • Perform other job-related tasks and projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required
  • Research experience, specifically related to quantitative analysis and statistical, spreadsheet, and/or database software; Stata/R experience desirable
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and willingness to gain proficiency in other computer programs
  • Good organizational and communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail, as well as a self-motivated work style and ability to work well both individually and in a group
  • Demonstrated interest, coursework or experience in social science or health-related research or service
  • Experience, training, and/or interest in reproductive health issues is desirable
  • Fluency in French and/or Spanish is desirable
