Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant – Fiscal Operations and Budget works closely with the Director of Finance and the Finance team to ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB, and ISA 800/805.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain awards issued to the institute originating from domestic and foreign agencies.
    • Review daily financial transactions to ensure:
      • Adherence to GAAP, FASB, Uniform Guidance, and ISA-800/805
      • Expenses incurred will meet the Terms & Conditions of the award
  • Perform various advanced accounting functions with varying levels of complexity including:
    • Financial data collection to ensure accuracy and compliance to the Institute's policy
    • Review and prepare analysis of financial entries
    • Post monthly, quarterly, annual journals to balance, reconcile and enable the production of special reporting functions
  • Take active role in the monthly preparation of revenue recognition, allocated costs, and grants receivable.
  • Collaborate in the preparation of fixed assets depreciation schedule.
  • Provide aid in preparation of organizational budgets
  • Provide monthly analysis of federal awards to facilitate regulatory drawdown of revenue
  • Facilitate collection of data for annual 990
  • Review, prepare and resolve monthly project budgets issues reflected in the financial system.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliation for General Operating account.
  • Create new awards in the financial systems
  • Maintain grant schedules and assist with follow-up of receivables
  • Participate in the preparation of monthly financials:
    •  Balance Sheet, Statement of Activities, Statement of Functional Expenses and Cash Flow
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliation for General Operating account.
  • Partner with Controller on preparation and reconciliation of monthly entries for Investment Portfolio
  • Prepare and review monthly project budgets:
    • Advise project managers, project leads of low-spend or accelerated spend concerns and propose resolution in adherence with agency Terms and Condition
  • Update Audit Schedules and resolve concerns on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain grant schedules and assist on follow up of receivables;
  • Propose adjusting journal entries as needed;
  • Prepare financial reports to funders;
  • Create new GL, project and funder codes in MIP;
  • Perform other job related responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Salary and benefits
