Regions

Latin America & the Caribbean

The Guttmacher Institute’s work in Latin America and the Caribbean has focused on documenting the incidence and consequences of abortion and unintended pregnancy, and supporting strategies that enable women to better time and space their pregnancies. The Institute also has estimated age-specific abortion rates and the cost of providing postabortion care; documented adolescents’ knowledge and use of sexual and reproductive health information and services; and promoted fact-based, comprehensive sex education and youth-friendly, confidential services.

Hear From An Expert

Twenty-four million women in Latin America and the Caribbean have an unmet need for modern contraception. Providing women with the family planning care they need would prevent more than nine million unintended pregnancies every year.
