During the annual partners’ meeting of the Implementing Best Practices (IBP) initiative, an international partnership of more than 45 member organizations, the IBP and the UK Network on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, a coalition of more than 70 United Kingdom–based organizations and experts, cosponsored an event focused on the Guttmacher-Lancet Commission on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. The event featured remarks by Erica Belanger, Chair of the UK Network on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, and Sarah Onyango, Director, Technical, at International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), and a presentation of the Commission’s report by Cynthia Summers, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President for Communications & Publications at the Guttmacher Institute, and Chair of the Commission’s Advisory Group.

Following Ms. Summers’ presentation on the Commission’s report, two panels discussed the report from various important perspectives. The first stakeholder-focused panel was facilitated by Rebekka Von Roemburg of SheDecides, and included Yilma Melkamu, Director, Programmes, at IPPF and member of the Commission’s Advisory Group; Felicity Daly, Global Research Program Coordinator at Outright International; Leslie Regan, President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists; Ian Askew, Director, Department of Reproductive Health and Research at WHO; and Jillian Gedeon, Cofounder and Executive Director of the International Youth Alliance for Family Planning.

The second panel focused on donor perspectives and featured Beth Scott, Social Development and Health Advisor, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, United Kingdom Department for International Development; Yemeserach Belayneh, Country Advisor, Population and Reproductive Health Program, David and Lucile Packard Foundation; and Sylvie Bourdenet of the Agence Française de Développement.
