December in [email protected]

In the final month of our celebration of the first half century of Perspectives, we focus on legal, policy and funding issues. These topics were central to the journal’s mission from the beginning—our inaugural issue described proposals for a national family planning agency and reviewed state laws regarding contraceptive provision to teenagers—and they remain so today. Some of the themes you’ll encounter this month, such as the poor coverage of abortion by health insurers, are distressingly evergreen, and not all of the posts will fill you with holiday cheer. But they will remind you that working to make and keep reproductive health services legal, accessible and affordable adds considerably to people’s lives—a gift worth giving at any time of year.

Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Family Planning Perspectives may be accessed through Wiley Online Library (2003–) and JSTOR (1969–2011).
