Anna Bernstein, Principal Federal Policy Advisor, marks 100 days of the Trump administration, detailing actions undermining SRHR—from Title X cuts and trans health restrictions to dismantling USAID and ending global family planning aid.
The First 100 Days of the Trump Administration
Transcript: Today marks 100 days since President Trump took office and his administration has wasted no time undermining sexual and reproductive health and rights. Trump swiftly nominated numerous agency leaders who oppose science and reproductive rights, directed federal agencies to restrict trans health care for youth and revoked two Biden-era executive orders that had expanded access to reproductive health care.
The administration also targeted birth control by withholding funds from many Title X clinics.
Title X is a federal program that provides affordable contraception to people living with low incomes and those who don't have health insurance. If the funding is cut permanently, about 30% of Title X patients lose access to this care. This full-on assault against reproductive freedom extends far beyond the United States.
In its first 100 days, the administration completely dismantled USAID, the US Agency for International Development and ended all US international family planning assistance. This action has already resulted in over 12 million women and girls being denied contraceptive care. These are only a few of the ways the administration has undermined and continues to threaten bodily autonomy, scientific integrity and basic health care.
Congress must act now to protect critical programs and reproductive rights in the US and around the world.
