Today, the Guttmacher Institute’s Board of Directors announces a leadership transition as Destiny Lopez steps down from her role as Co-President and CEO of the Guttmacher Institute to pursue new opportunities. We value Destiny’s leadership and the lasting impact of her work strengthening the organization, spearheading its strategic planning process, leveraging funding, and elevating its visibility to position Guttmacher for its next phase of impact.
Effective July 16, 2026, Jonathan Wittenberg, currently Co-President and CEO, will assume the role of President and CEO. Jonathan brings a strong track record of leadership to this role, including deep institutional knowledge and close relationships with partners, donors and other key stakeholders.
“We are deeply grateful to Destiny for her leadership during a pivotal time, for not only the organization, but also for the larger field of sexual and reproductive health and rights. Thanks to Destiny’s numerous contributions, we are entering this next chapter from a position of strength and stability. The Board has full confidence in Jonathan’s ability to lead with clarity and vision at this critical moment,” stated Wendy Bostwick, Chair of the Board of Directors.
This transition comes at a time of complexity and a fractured environment across the sexual and reproductive health and rights landscape, underscoring the importance of strong, steady leadership. The Institute remains committed to its mission to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights in the United States and worldwide. Guttmacher is well-positioned to meet this moment with rigor, clarity and impact, ensuring that policies continue to be grounded in the highest-quality evidence.
