The Guttmacher Institute is pleased to announce that Dr. Adesegun Fatusi will be joining the Institute on May 1, 2019 as one of two Directors of International Research. Dr. Fatusi will join Guttmacher’s research management team and will work together with Dr. Ann Biddlecom, Director of International Research, and Dr. Susheela Singh, Vice President for International Research, to oversee the Institute’s policy-relevant international research portfolio.
Prior to joining the Institute, Dr. Fatusi was Professor of Community Health and Public Health at the Obafemi Awolowo University, one of the leading universities in Nigeria. He also worked with the UNFPA’s program in Nigeria as a Reproductive Health Advisor and served as a consultant for a number of international development organizations, including WHO, UNICEF, UNAIDS, USAID and UNDP.

Dr. Fatusi’s research expertise is in adolescent health and development; sexual, reproductive and maternal health; public health; and policy development. He has acted as the Nigeria principal investigator for multicountry studies, including the 15-country Global Early Adolescent Study supported by WHO and USAID, and has led a number of national-level studies on adolescent health, HIV prevention, reproductive and child health, and obstetric care. A frequent contributor to expert panels and technical working groups, Dr. Fatusi has published extensively and is a coauthor of the report of the Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing.
