Guttmacher Institute Strategic Plan 2026–2029

Our strategic priorities focus on how Guttmacher can best leverage its existing expertise, partnerships, networks and resources over the next three years to address the most critical threats the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) field is facing. These priorities are designed to be mutually reinforcing and apply to both our current flagship domestic and global programs and to other ongoing work. Taken together, they will enable us to evolve, innovate and strengthen our work as we strive to advance our mission and build a better future.

Strategic Priorities:

1. Center the Facts to Disrupt Misinformation and Disinformation (MDI)

  • Improve understanding of MDI’s impact on SRHR through original research
  • Launch a digital clearinghouse as a one-stop shop for trusted facts
  • Train policymakers to identify and counter MDI
  • Engage new audiences, including influencers

2. Advance Global Work Through Equitable Partnership

  • Accelerate implementation of our framework for equitable partnerships
  • Develop comprehensive global SRHR indicators
  • Integrate in-country and regional voices into flagship data projects
  • Expand open-access dashboards and toolkits

3. Drive Progress in the United States Through Responsive, State-Specific Resources

  • Build a stakeholder-informed US research agenda
  • Generate new data responsive to state and federal partners’ needs
  • Provide timely resources and technical support to state advocates
  • Refine online platforms to share state-level data

4. Increase Relevancy and Reach Through Digital Innovation

  • Develop data-driven storytelling formats
  • Enhance discoverability across search and AI environments
  • Use audience insights to optimize reach and impact
  • Increase and enhance use of data visualization
