Kelly Baden on hope at #IWPR Power+ Summit 2024
Transcript: So what is our way forward when things feel so bleak and so hard? I would never ask anyone to find a silver lining in this moment—that’s not possible. But as noted abolitionist, educator and activist Mariame Kaba says, hope is a discipline.
My call to action—as a woman, as an abortion rights advocate and as a white woman—is to hold all of these realities, these tragic outcomes and their disproportionate impact—especially on Black women—at the center of my work. It’s about embracing the complexity and nuance of what the landscape looks like in a post-Roe world.
I invite you to join me in channeling our heartbreak and our rage into this critical work: creating a vision for true sexual and reproductive health and rights here in the US and around the world. We can and should learn not only from one another across states, but also from our sisters in Latin America—through the Green Wave movement, which has made huge strides in Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and beyond—as well as from advocates in Ireland, France and around the world who are securing, protecting and expanding access to abortion care.
