What is Beijing+30?
Transcript: This coming year will be marking Beijing+30 years since the Beijing Declaration was adopted. So in 1995, 189 governments gathered in Beijing where they unanimously adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. This was a landmark document that affirmed women's rights as human rights. The declaration outlines key areas for action to achieve gender equality, including economic and political empowerment, health and education for all women and that includes comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights.
In March 2025, at the annual meeting of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, we'll be talking about the progress made by countries around the world on their commitments to fulfill these gender equality goals, for example, the right to have control over one's own sexual and reproductive health free from coercion, discrimination or violence and the right to access health care services, including family planning, maternal and emergency obstetric care.
Follow along with us to find out more about where progress has been achieved and where more work needs to be done.
