Principal Research Scientist

Rachel K. Jones

Portrait of Rachel Jones

Rachel Jones has worked at the Guttmacher Institute since 1999. She received her PhD in sociology from Tulane University, where she studied gender, family and inequality. Since 2000, she has been the principal investigator for the Institute’s national studies of U.S. abortion patients, and she has overseen the U.S. Abortion Provider Census since 2008. Dr. Jones is considered a leading expert on abortion in the United States. She has also conducted studies on contraceptive use, health insurance and adolescent sexual health in the United States, using both qualitative and quantitative data. Dr. Jones is a member of the American Public Health Association and the Population Association of America, and she serves on the board of directors of the National Abortion Federation.
