Planned Giving

Two women sitting on couch smilngThank you for your interest in including the Guttmacher Institute in your estate plans. If you have any questions after consulting this page, please contact the development office, at 646-438-8637 or developmentoffice@guttmacher.org. If you would like to explore the many ways you can support Guttmacher, please visit our Other Ways to Give page.

Guide to Planned Giving

When you make a planned gift to the Guttmacher Institute, you join a group of leaders who recognize the enduring importance of the Guttmacher Institute’s research and advocacy—a community of allies who are aware of the formidable challenges we face and are committed to helping us overcome them.

Over the years, many people like you have supported the Institute by making a planned gift. By including the Institute in your estate plans, you can make a lasting gift that also has important implications for your future income, your current tax position and the size of your estate.

We know that making a decision about planned giving can be challenging and that it is important to support an organization that you can trust. Guttmacher has long been recognized as a high-performing nonprofit that consistently produces powerful and lasting results. We are proud of the fact that Philanthropedia named the Institute the nation’s #1 reproductive health and rights organization two consecutive times, based on surveys of more than 100 experts in the field, and that leading charity rating agencies consistently give Guttmacher high marks for transparency and financial management. We hope that this helps you feel confident in the Institute’s ability to maintain its place as the gold standard in its field for decades to come.

What Is the Legacy Circle?

The Legacy Circle exists to acknowledge those loyal friends who have had the foresight and dedication to include the Institute in their estate plans. Those who have joined the Legacy Circle have ensured that their contribution to Guttmacher will be sustained for generations to come. By joining, you will send a message about what you value and set a powerful example that will inspire others.

As a member, you will enjoy special recognition, including acknowledgments in select online and printed materials, and invitations to special events.

Enrolling in this honorary society is simply a matter of notifying the Institute that you have included it in your will, no matter the size of your bequest.

For more information, please explore our Legacy Circle Brochure.

How to Include the Guttmacher Institute in Your Will

It is important that gifts to the Institute made in your will be clear as to the recipient. The full and complete name to use is the Guttmacher Institute. The address is 125 Maiden Lane, 7th floor, New York, NY 10038. Our tax I.D. number is 13-289072-7.

The following examples are typical of language used in wills:

For a Bequest of Money:

I give the sum of $_________ (or _____% of the value of my estate) to the Guttmacher Institute.

Personal Property:

I give my (insert type of property, such as jewelry, artwork) to the Guttmacher Institute.

Real Estate:

I give all my interest in the real property that I own at (exact address) to the Guttmacher Institute.

Residuary Estate:

I give the residue of my estate to the Guttmacher Institute.

Contingent Bequest:

If (the primary beneficiary) does not survive me, I give the property, real or personal, that said beneficiary would have received to the Guttmacher Institute.

How to Make Another Type of Planned Gift

While planned giving does not have to be complicated, you may wish to make another type of gift that can result in substantial tax savings during your lifetime or provide financial support to your beneficiaries such as a charitable gift annuity, charitable lead trust, or a gift of a life insurance or retirement plan. To discuss any of these options in further detail, please contact the development office at 646-438-8637 or developmentoffice@guttmacher.org.

Thank you for your support!
