US Policy on Abortion

Topics of US policy discussions about abortion include legality and availability; access later in pregnancy; affordability and insurance coverage; the global gag rule; and the Hyde, Weldon and Helms Amendments. The Guttmacher Institute’s analyses examine how state and federal abortion policies promote or impede access to care, as well as the impact they have on people’s lives, especially since the 2022 Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturned the right to abortion.
