The Guttmacher Institute estimates the incidence, consequences and costs of unintended pregnancy globally, regionally and at the country level, and seeks to understand what drives unintended pregnancy rates and trends. We promote policies and strategies that enable women to time and space their pregnancies.
Substantial progress for women and girls has been made over the past two decades, but large gaps remain. There are 218 million women in low- and middle-income countries who want to avoid pregnancy and are not using a modern contraceptive method.
