The Guttmacher Institute conducts global studies on topics such as the incidence of abortion, barriers to contraceptive use, and the reproductive health needs of adolescents. Through its Adding It Up series, the Institute generates evidence on the costs and benefits of investing in SRH services in the developing world. Guttmacher also brings an evidence-based perspective to key policy discussions—for example, by leading an effort to ensure that sexual and reproductive health indicators are given priority in the emerging global development agenda.

Hear From An Expert

Generally speaking, abortion rates are similar in countries where abortion is broadly legal and in those where it is restricted - underscoring that women seek abortion when experiencing unintended pregnancy, regardless of its legal status.
